Tharisa Adjusts Chromium Output Targets Despite Quarterly Gains
South African miner Tharisa has reported mixed production results for its latest quarter, showing improvements in both platinum group metals (PGMs) and chromium concentrates, but still decided to lower its full-year output targets.
The Numbers Tell the Story
In the quarter ending June 30:
PGM production rose 6.2% to 34,500 ounces
Chromium concentrate output increased 3.9% to 395,700 tons
Total mined material jumped 27.7% to 1.44 million tons
CEO Phoevos Pouroulis noted: “We’re seeing better recovery rates for both chromium and PGMs as we move toward our integrated processing plant goals. While ore blending remains challenging, increased mining flexibility should help improve grades.”
First nine months’ production hit just 96,000 oz PGMs and 1.15 million tons of chromium
This barely meets the low end of the original guidance
Company is cutting full-year targets by about 5%
New targets: 140,000 oz PGMs and 1.65 million tons chromium
Why This Matters for Stainless Steel
